The Circus Train launches in Italy
Kicking off January with the most exciting news — on January 12th, 2022, I officially became a published author. The Circus Train was published in translation in Italy and is now available all over the country.
The book is called ‘Il Circo Delle Illusioni’ in Italian.
One of the most fun things (ok THE most fun thing) about being a published author is the chance to have your books translated into different languages. I am very fortunate because my agent is also the Rights Director at my agency and is so knowledgeable about translation rights. It’s so surreal to me that The Circus Train is now out in Italian and will also be out in Slovak, Russian and Czech, in addition to English.

Costretta su una sedia a rotelle fin da bambina, guardata con pietà e derisione dai circensi, trova nei libri l’unica via di fuga, sognando di diventare una scienziata. Un giorno, durante una sosta ad Amsterdam, Lena scopre nella dispensa un ragazzino steso a terra, ferito e coperto di abiti logori. Il desiderio di aiutarlo è più forte di ogni timore, ma il padre e il direttore del circo capiscono subito che la situazione è più rischiosa di quanto sembri. Sul passaporto del ragazzo, stampata con inchiostro rosso, spicca la lettera “J”: Alexandre è un orfano ebreo sfuggito ai nazisti. Di fronte alle insistenze della figlia, Theo convince il direttore a nasconderne l’identità e ad accoglierlo nel circo come apprendista. A poco a poco la complicità fra i due giovani si trasforma in un sentimento che si avvicina all’amore, finché una persona fidata li tradisce, vendendo l’illusionista e il suo aiutante come intrattenitori per le SS. Molti anni dopo, Lena ha una nuova vita e un matrimonio imminente: non pensa certo di poter mai riabbracciare il padre e il suo primo grande amore, perduti durante la guerra… Una storia commovente, drammatica eppure piena di speranza, con due protagonisti capaci di sognare in un mondo spietato.

It’s not normal for books to be released in translation first. But nothing about my publishing journey has been ‘normal’. When you get book deals during a global pandemic, your definition of ‘normal’ definitely changes! It is truly an amazing feeling to know people are reading my book and falling in love with my words.
